GET DIRECTIONS

When a warning light comes on, your Subaru starts running rough, or something just doesn't feel right, you need more than a quick code scan, you need a true Subaru diagnostic service from specialists who understand these vehicles inside and out.

At East Valley Auto Rebuild in Kent, WA, we combine 30+ years in the automotive industry with advanced tools and deep Subaru experience to pinpoint issues accurately the first time. Founded by Mark Bryant, the Independent Subaru Guru, and his wife Denise, our family-owned shop has been serving Subaru drivers from a 7,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Kent since 2003.

We're "Your Sensible Dealership Alternative" for everything from basic check engine light diagnosis to complex Subaru engine diagnostics and computer-related issues.

Why Accurate Subaru Diagnostic Service Matters

Modern Subarus rely on sophisticated computer systems and sensors to manage everything from fuel delivery to stability control. When something is off, you'll often see:

  • A check engine light or flashing CEL

  • Rough idle, hesitation, or misfires

  • Loss of power or poor fuel economy

  • Strange noises, smells, or vibrations

  • Intermittent problems that are hard to reproduce

A generic parts-store scan tool might give you a code, but it won't tell the full story. Real Subaru diagnostic service in Kent, WA means:

  • Understanding how Subaru engine management and computer systems work

  • Interpreting codes and live data correctly

  • Knowing common Subaru patterns and failure points

  • Testing components rather than guessing and replacing parts at random

Our goal is simple: quick, accurate diagnosis and transparent communication, so you know exactly what your Subaru needs, and what it doesn't.

Advanced Subaru Engine Diagnostics & Computer Diagnostics

At East Valley Auto Rebuild, diagnostics is one of our core strengths. We've invested heavily in state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and top-grade measuring tools to ensure complete accuracy.

When you come in for Subaru engine diagnostics or Subaru computer diagnostics, we may use:

Factory-level scan tools to read Subaru-specific codes and live data
Advanced testing for ignition, fuel, air, and sensor systems
Compression and leak-down testing where needed
Electrical testing and wiring checks for intermittent issues
Data logging and road testing to reproduce real-world driving conditions

Because our team has combined 70+ years of Subaru and automotive knowledge, we can handle even the toughest jobs, including problems that other shops haven't been able to solve. From vintage Subarus (1985+) to current models, we understand how Subaru systems have changed over time and how to diagnose each generation properly.

Subaru Diagnostics Built for Pacific Northwest Driving Conditions

Driving in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area means dealing with:

  • Constant moisture and rain

  • Temperature swings between seasons

  • Steep hills, traffic, and mixed city/highway use

These conditions can affect electrical connectors, sensors, exhaust components, and more. As a locally owned and operated shop in Kent, WA since 2003, we know how Pacific Northwest conditions impact Subarus over time.

We regularly provide Subaru diagnostic service for drivers from:

  • Kent, Auburn, Renton, Federal Way, Seattle, Tacoma, Des Moines, Burien, SeaTac, and beyond

We've also been BBB Accredited since July 5, 2011, reflecting our long-standing commitment to honest, high-quality work.

"Number-One Solution in the Region" for Subaru Diagnostic Service

Many general repair shops have scan tools. But as Mark likes to say, "while other shops often lack the knowledge, skills and equipment necessary to provide high-quality Subaru services, our extensive experience with these cars and SUVs allows us to deliver results that are unmatched throughout the region."

Here's what sets our Subaru diagnostic service in Kent, WA apart:

Transparent, Educational Subaru Diagnostic Process

Our philosophy is simple: no surprises, no hidden agenda, and clear communication at every step.

During your Subaru diagnostic service:

  • You can talk directly to the technician who's working on your vehicle.

  • We'll take you into the service area (when it's safe) to show you what we've found.

  • We provide photos and/or videos to document codes, failed components, or leak points.

  • Mark often performs a personal inspection and is available to go over the findings.

  • We give you an honest appraisal of what needs immediate attention versus what can wait, so you can plan repairs according to your budget.

This is what we mean by "The Curtain is Removed!!", you see exactly what we see, and you understand exactly what we recommend and why.

Honest Check Engine Light Diagnostics, No Guesswork

When your check engine light comes on, it's easy to feel anxious. Is it something simple, or a major problem?

At East Valley Auto Rebuild, our approach to Subaru engine diagnostics and check engine lights is:

  • No parts cannon - We don't just throw parts at the problem. We test, verify, and confirm before recommending repairs.

  • Clear explanation of codes - We'll explain what each code means in plain language and how it relates to your Subaru's symptoms.

  • Prioritized recommendations - If multiple issues are present, we'll rank them by urgency and impact, so you can make informed choices.

  • Respect for your budget - We understand real-world constraints and will work with you on a plan that makes sense.

Our long-time customers appreciate that we're not here to "sell" repairs, we're here to solve problems and earn trust for the long term.

The quality of work is top notch. Took my 2011 STI there to get the head gaskets done and could not be more pleased with the work they did and how they treated me through the process. Sent photos and videos of the entire process while taking apart the motor. Great people who really do want the best for the customer and their car. Would absolutely take my Subaru there again if needed.

Mark covered it all with his extensive knowledge while he tooks us out to lunch. He really made sure that what I wanted out of and from the car is what I got.

Some of Our Professional Subaru Services

Below are some of our most popular Subaru Services and Repairs and descriptions of each.

Transmission Repair
Diagnosing and fixing issues within a vehicle's transmission system, which is responsible for shifting gears and transferring power from the engine to the wheels. Repairs can range from replacing worn components like gears or seals to a full rebuild or replacement, depending on the severity of the problem.
Cylinder Head Repair
Involves inspecting and fixing issues with the cylinder head, such as cracks, warping, or valve damage. Repairs may include resurfacing, replacing valves or seals, and ensuring a proper seal with the engine block to maintain engine performance and prevent leaks.
Nose Job
Replacement of critical timing components including idlers, guides, water pump, belts or chains that wear as your engine ages. Breath fresh life into your vehicle knowing that these components are new top of the line parts designed for your vehicle.
Brake Repair
Involves inspecting, servicing, or replacing components of a vehicle's braking system — such as brake pads, rotors, calipers, or brake fluid — to ensure safe and effective stopping power. Regular brake maintenance is essential for vehicle safety and performance.
Reseal
Solve your engine leaks when you don't need a complete rebuild. We do a complete reseal with all new gaskets and seals in addition to new timing components. This is an ideal repair for engines that run well but have lots of leaks.
30/60/90/120K Maintenance
Refers to routine maintenance performed at 30,000-mile intervals to keep a vehicle running smoothly and reliably. These services typically include oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, tire rotations, brake inspections, and timing belt or spark plug replacements as needed, based on the vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations.
Diagnosis
Involves using specialized tools and expertise to identify issues in a vehicle’s systems—such as the engine, transmission, brakes, or electronics. Technicians read error codes, perform tests, and inspect components to determine the cause of warning lights, strange noises, or performance problems.
Oil Service
Involves draining old engine oil, replacing it with fresh oil, and installing a new oil filter. This routine maintenance helps keep the engine properly lubricated, reduces wear, and ensures optimal performance and longevity.
Tune Up
Maintenance service that helps keep your engine running efficiently. It typically includes replacing spark plugs, inspecting or replacing filters, checking ignition components, and ensuring the fuel and air systems are functioning properly. A tune-up can improve performance, fuel efficiency, and prevent future issues.
Clutch Service
Involves inspecting, adjusting, repairing, or replacing the clutch system components to ensure smooth gear shifting and proper power transfer from the engine to the transmission. This can include replacing the clutch disc, pressure plate, or hydraulic parts to restore optimal performance.
Tire Alignment/Rotation
Maintenance services that help extend tire life and improve vehicle handling. Alignment adjusts the angles of the tires to ensure they meet the road correctly, preventing uneven wear. Rotation involves moving tires to different positions on the vehicle to promote even tread wear across all tires.
Battery Replacement
Involves removing the old, worn-out car battery and installing a new one to ensure reliable engine starting and proper electrical system function. It’s essential for maintaining vehicle performance, especially in extreme weather conditions.
Auto Detailing
A thorough cleaning and restoration service for a vehicle’s interior and exterior. It goes beyond a regular wash to remove dirt, grime, and stains, polish surfaces, and protect paint, upholstery, and trim — helping the car look like new and maintain its value.
Electrical
Involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the vehicle’s electrical systems, including the battery, wiring, lights, alternator, starter, and electronic control units. Proper electrical function is essential for everything from starting the engine to powering accessories and safety features.
Differential Service
Involves inspecting, cleaning, and replacing the fluid in a vehicle’s differential—the component that allows wheels to rotate at different speeds while turning. Regular service helps prevent wear, reduce noise, and ensure smooth power delivery to the wheels.
Radiator Flush
